Irish Session with The Harp and Drum is held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at 3pm. Attendance is sometimes rich and sometimes sparse. A core group of individuals keep the lantern burning for others to drop by and join in. Originated by Harp and Drum founders, Mark and Elaine Davis, this session purveys traditional Irish reels, jigs, planxties and hornpipes. We also throw in a waltz or two and often diversify to include related folk genres that share a common thread with the Irish musical heritage.
Instruments found frequently include fiddle, harp, hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, whistles and flutes and of course bodhran. This session allows for some deviations from the typical Irish norm but requires all to be acoustic…no amplification allowed. We have spotted an occasional didgeridoo.
This session has a core repertory but welcomes anyone to bring their favorite tunes and encourage all to learn and foster learning to expand the awareness and enjoyment of traditional Celtic music.
