Starting in September 2013, John Murphy, B/C button accordion player, will lead a Traditional Irish Music session at Banter in Denton (219 W. Oak St.). In September and October, there will be an intermediate-level session from 3-5 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month. Starting in November, sessions will be held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Participants must play traditional Irish music instruments: fiddle, whistle, flute (Irish flute, not C orchestral flute), bodhran (Irish drum), ulleann pipes (Irish pipes, not the Scottish bagpipes), harp, concertina, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, button accordion, or hammered dulcimer. We’ll follow the model established by the Dallas Slow Sessions. In the first hour we’ll play the 21 tunes on the intermediate list at www.dallasslowsessions.com at a medium tempo. In the second hour, we’ll play any traditional Irish tune that at least two of us know.
The session is sponsored by the Texas Irish Music Education Society. For more information, contact John Murphy at dentonirishsession@jpm76210.com.
